Expedition Rider
The mission of Expedition Rider is to deliver quality DualSport and Adventure Touring "mototainment" via Web content, photography & video, and activities. The goal in doing this is to provide ride routes and travel info, helpful tips, and inspiration to beginners and seasoned riders alike as they hit the roads and trails on their adventures.

The focus is on the North American Continent. Why? Because our continent is so vast and offers many opportunities for adventure close to home. There are also certain other advantages. With the realization that not everyone has the time or the resources to devote to a 'round-the-world trip, the scope of this web site is to portray real adventures for real people.

About Mark Van Horn:

Mark has over 12 years of riding experience on and off-road. Over the years, motorcycling has shaped who he is such that he has mirrored the definition of "Live to ride." He has ridden his bike on his daily commute for 56 months straight in all the weather conditions that Pennsylvania can dish out, without ever opting for the car.  This includes riding in rain, sleet, snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures.  Six years ago, Mark's enthusiasm has broadened into promoting small annual organized rides, complete with all the trimmings of larger AMA events.
His passion for riding has grown further with the desire to share his experiences through multimedia. This began with a simple chest-mounted camcorder. Mark has now combined his enthusuasm with state-of-the-art equipment and his outdoor photography skills (he was a TA for photography classes in his younger days) to create Expedition Rider.
Mark spent his prior life as a Microbiologist. However, he always preferred peering into an engine instead of a microscope. Along with his 11 years of experience working on vintage SAAB cars, he has five years of experience with both the mechanical and electrical aspects of undersea systems.  This consists of the design, fabrication and maintenance of devices used in the rigors of deep-sea research aboard the DSV ALVIN and other research subs.
His skills include machine shop (mill, lathe, and related equipment), welding, strong mathematical and physics aptitude, electrical and electronics, soldering, and hydraulics. Mark's resourcefulness is one of his greatest assets.  If he doesn't have the proper tool or part for the job, he is able to either make it himself or improvise.  Mark has developed such a reputation for this that his friends and associates call him "MacGuyver".
